Things I've Learned In The Last 72 Hours.

  1. OnDemand is a really inflexible piece of software. You can't change the schema once an application group is created. Need to change a field from 7 to 10 characters? Sorry, you need to build a whole new application for that. Ugh. Hope it works with whatever release script you have.
  2. Ascent Capture is another one. It's a bit more flexible than OnDemand, but boy is it picky when it comes to setup. And don't bother trying to copy an object. Can't be done. You have to recreate everything from scratch when you need to make a new one.
  3. All this recreation leads to forgetting things and making mistakes. I need to make better documentation of the existing stuff before I try this again. Some choices are not so intuitive, it would seem.
  4. Good Food and Good Sleep is the best medicine, whatever your physical, mental or emotional ailment.
  5. You really can't teach an old dog new tricks.
  6. I need to be a little meaner in Tai Chi class, and nicer in the rest of the world. (First part was my teachers admonishment to me, second part is mine to myself.)
  7. Jeremiah was a bullfrog. (Just seeing if you were paying attention.)
  8. IBM hardware does some strange things. Like locking up or physically shutting down the server for no known reason. There isn't a single error message anywhere to indicate an issue. Nothing in the event logs at all. I'm thinking I might have to install some hardware monitoring to see if I can track down the issue.
  9. Finally: The more I learn, the less I realize I know. Good thing I enjoy learning. :-)
