Random Geekiness

Wow. Difficult time getting into Blogger this morning. Multiple timeouts and delays. Lag, baby. Lag. (Lagging Infernooooo!) OK, I'll stop.

Massive issues at work last week. Let's just say, Bad DNS config + Domain Trust secure channel issue = 9 hour conference call with Microsoft. Oy. Here's a tip for you: If you can't do a zone transfer of the other domain for some reason, do this: Create a primary zone for the other domain in the trust. Take the winnt\system32\config\dns\netlogon.dns file from that domain's DC, and paste the contents into the zone file of the primary zone you just created. Now you have all the relevant AD entries in your own zone. You can do this as many times as you need.

Oh, and KEEP RESTRICTANONYMOUS TURNED OFF!!! You'll save yourself a headache or three.

Planning Geek: I continue to revise my method for planning and task/project tracking. I'm playing with a combination Outlook/OneNote/Groove solution now. Something tells me it shouldn't be this complicated or require three separate products to function correctly. There's got to be a customizable app out there somewhere with the functionality I need. All I want to do is have a mobile solution for managing email, notes, tasks, and track projects. Can't be that hard. I'm open to suggestions. The more I worked with it, the more I realized that the pencil and paper solution was just a crutch, and I really want an electronic solution that works the way the PNP solution does. So I suppose I should sit down sometime today and think about how I really work, and what would be the best tool for me.

I wonder sometimes if I spend too much time changing the way I work to fit the tools I have, rather than finding the right tools for the way I like to work. Sad, isn't it? :-)

Food Geek: I grabbed a bunch of new recipies the other day. The good so far, a Southwestern Chicken Skillet dish that seemed to go over well. I had it for breakfast again yesterday, which might explain why my tummy was in an uproar for most of the afternoon. Or, could have been all that pizza I ate. You never can tell. On the menu tonight, we have a ham and cheese sandwich roll that looks pretty easy to make. I'll post something about that when I get a chance.

As it is, time for me to get to work. More tomorrow, should something cool come up. Later.
