Wouldn't it be cool to have time management software that also made suggestions as to how to be healthier, nicer to others and just plain live better? You could input your age, some basic health information, hobbies, personal preferences, religious beliefs, and what have you... and generate a solid life plan that would help you be more productive, not just in work, but in life as a whole.
One can dream.
Speaking of dreaming, weird stuff going on in my mind lately. I was inside a computer, physically pushing data around. Ok, throwing it, in the case of the ACK packets. They're light. Regardless, I was master of the machine. Kung Foo Rock Star, if you will. It was fun. At least until I got bitten by an errant ICMP packet. Damn OSPF routers and their 7 LSA types. "Yes, the host is there!", I shouted. "I set it up myself." I really have to schedule and take that Cisco exam, so at the very least, my head can 'asplode' and get it over with.
On the work front, I think I've come up with a good trifecta of time management happiness. I have MS Outlook for the day to day scheduling, reminders, and email. I use MS OneNote for the weekly planning and task lists, as well as research and note taking. The search and cross referencing features rosk the socks. Finally, Project for the overall planning and tracking of everything I do. It's a pretty good system, in theory. I just wish I could get it all in one place. I'm open to suggestions, if anyone has any. The paper planner just wasn't working out, in practice. It did, however, give me a little more insight into how I work, and what kinds of organization work for me. So, I think I'm on the right track. At least for now.
Speaking of which, I just got a pop-up that reminds me it's time to start working on the task list for this week. I'm rebuilding my laptop tomorrow, so I've got to try and knock out as many of the incidental tasks as I can, today. Off to the races, and wish me luck!
