Vista Install #5 - Codename: FINAL

Installation:

  • Installed the OS as previously. Installation again took approximately two hours, though most of that was unattended.

Here we go...:

  • Added the machine to the local domain. Rebooted OK.
  • Switched the Start Menu to 'Classic' mode. Rebooted OK.
  • Installed the SQL Server 2000 Client Tools. Rebooted OK.
    • Autorun would not run from the network, so the files were copied to the local machine.
    • Autorun would not run from the local machine, so setupsql.exe was run manually.
  • Patched SQL 2000 to Service Pack 3a. Rebooted to Black Screen.
    • Attempted Last Known Good boot. - No success.
    • Attempted Safe Mode bood. - No success.

And that will be the last installation I attempt of this OS until I speak with Microsoft about this. An installation that lasts about 24 hours, max, doesn't make testing very easy.
