Installation: (Detailed)
- Installed the NEW hard disk into the machine and created a new volume. (38 GB)
- Installed Vista:
- Region: US
- Username: David
- Password: ********
- PC Name: DMM-6698-VISTA
- Protection Settings: Max
- Time Zone: -5:00, Observer DST
- Reboot
Setup:
- Located User Account Protection settings in the local security policy. (secpol.msc, Local Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options)
- Set UAP: Behavior of the Elevation Prompt to "No Prompt" for administrators, and "Prompt for Credentials" for regular users.
- NIC problem still existed, so I place the laptop in a docking station. The docking station NIC works fine, so I'll leave it in there for testing purposes.
- Added the machine to the domain, and rebooted. Success!
- Turned off all the enhanced graphics via the system and display control panels.
- Set screen resolution to 1024 x 768 @ 16bpp.
- Rebooted.
- Took the laptop home, forgetting that without the docking station, I have no connectivity. (Duh.)
- Booted, found that the laptop had cached my domain logon. Lucky me!
- Installed Office 12. Shut down.
And I'm currently up and running, doing a bit of IE7 testing, and making sure I have access to all the MS newsgroups and beta chat rooms and such. Got to get those bugs reported, right? Should be an eventful day. The acid test will be to see if I can install the SQL Enterprise Manager on the Vista workstation. That's what killed it the first time, I think. We shall see if I can duplicate that feat. Wish me luck!
