Been trying for a few minutes now to bring up support.dell.com, and it's just not happening. Either in Firefox or Iexplore. Weird how that site will just do that sometimes. Must be running IIS6...
Anyway: Just started putting in fixes from a massive SQL server security audit the client wants to do here. For some reason, the've decided they want to use DOD level security settings on all these machines. Why, I don't know. We're nowhere near national security.
Thing is, a lot of the changes they're requesting are breaking applications left and right. Not sure how these apps were written, but a couple of our main applications are being broken due to changes in the basic security structure. Things as simple as denying the PUBLIC role access to master.dbo.sp_cursoropen. Boom, nobody gets in. Sad. There's going to be a lot of required research going on here... Soon.
I've started working on an internal audit as well. We don't have quite as much work to do internally as the client does, but we do have some serious work cut out for us.
With all this going on, I've been asked to make a responsibility list for myself. The idea is to start making a list of things I could move around to other people, or for someone new to come in and take over.
Long list so far. Speaking of which, must get back to work. Severs may have a problem with security, but my job sure doesn't.
