I've heard from both sides of the argument. Real men eat quiche / Real men don't eat quiche. New flash, idiots: Real men eat what they like. If the like quiche, they eat it. If not, they don't. Neither the feminists or the chauvanists have any f-ing right to tell me what to like, so screw the both of you. Besides, I don't just eat quiche, I MAKE quiche.
Dave's really frickin easy quiche:
Ingredients:
- 1 ready made pie crust. Shortbread is good, anything will do.
- 4 eggs.
- 1/2 cup milk. Any grade of milk is fine.
- 1 cup shredded cheese. Whatever's in the dairy section is fine.
- 4 strips of bacon.
- 8 - 10 mushrooms, sliced.
- 1 small onion, diced.
- 1 big handful baby spinach, chopped.
- Seasonings of your choice.
Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees. If you microwave your bacon, as I do, start that now. Othewise, start by cooking the bacon in a skillet over medium heat. Once it's nice and crispy, set it aside and drain the pan, but not completely. Leave about a teaspoon or so of bacon grease. Now add the onions. (If microwaving the bacon, use a teaspoon's worth of butter in lieu of the bacon grease.) When the onions start to carmelize, add the mushrooms. Once those start to give off some juice, add the spinach and cover the pan. It only takes a minute or so for the spinach to wilt, so once it does, GET IT OFF THE HEAT.
While that's cooling, beat all 4 eggs in a bowl. Mix in your seasonings. (However you usually season your eggs is cool.) Mix in the milk and cheese. Crumble the bacon and mix that in too. Now add the partially cooled mixture of onions, mushrooms and spinach from the skillet. You should have a VERY thick, soupy mix now. Pour that into the pie crust, and throw it in the oven for 25 minutes or so, or until you can poke it and the knife or toothpick comes out clean.
That's it. Seriously.
What, you forgot this was also a food blog? :-)
