Follow Up

Yesterday's meeting went OK. What I got out of it was that there were application changes going in to improve performance, but I have no idea what they are. The whole thing seemed to be more of an issue with who to contact in the event of an issue. Nobody seemed to know, and everybody wanted to call me. I said that was fine, but I may not be able to handle all the issues, so they would need to be patient with me while I sort out who the best person to talk to would be. Lots of communication misunderstandings. Such is normal around here. And most workplaces, really.

It came down to the speed issue again. I stated my case, that the response time between packets travelling from our servers to the client's firewall is averaging around .005 seconds. I would call that pretty quick. Also, I heard this: "Well, the new version of the application is much faster than the old version." Well, wouldn't that be an application issue, then? Although, maybe not, since the test DB is on a different server, but it's been that way for quite some time. Since well before they started experiencing this massive slowdown, actually.

Anyway. Still messing about with the stylesheet. Nothing much more exciting than that to post today. I'm going to leave the fonts the way they are for now. I don't really feel like going back and editing the font selection for all previous posts, today. Much documentation to do at work. And follow up for some closing projects.

That and encryption standards are getting put in place here, and they're of nightmarish proportions. I won't go into specifics about the products we've chosen, but I will say that they are all in test right now, and only about half of them are working in any measurable capacity. Sucks to be me, right now. I get to implement and train everybody. Fun.

That's all for now. More later, perhaps, as I finish documentation. Thanks for reading.

-D.
