So did I get any sleep last night? No. Stayed up late, again, working on another project unrelated to anything that I had previously promised myself I was going to do. Although the results are promising, and with a minor adjustment to my toolkit, I have some good things coming.
No, I'm not telling what the project is. Every time I do that, I end up getting sidtracked and working on something else. Keeping this one a secret for now.
I did manage to get one thing done on Maxwell's Alley last night. I had somehow managed to remove all the current content from my local machine, so I had to re-download the entire site last night. That took a while, so I busied myself with other things until it finished. I now have a current, synced up copy of the site, and can start rebuilding from there. I have a few simple CSS tricks to play on it that should make it a bit more navigable. I'll also start slogging through the archives, in an attempt to re-post them. I'll keep comments intact as much as possible, but I make no promises. There's a good chance I may lose them. If so, so be it. It is likely possible I could save them all, but I'd have to go entry-by-entry to do it. That's a pretty Herculean task, even for me. So, unless I find an easy way to do it, be prepared to see the comments go by the wayside.
Of course, after all that, it was about 11:00 PM and I was dead tired. Good if you want to get to sleep quick, not so good if you want to be at work on time by 6:00 AM the next morning. And your alarm clocks are set for 4:00 AM. So, it was another epic battle with the snooze button this morning, though I did manage to get in the door about 6:02 AM. Two minutes late. I can work with that.
I have no house work planned for this evening. I do have Tai Chi tonight, which will consume a couple of hours including travel time, but I will not be working in the garage / back yard / basement or any other room that cries for my attention. I will be making dinner, playing with my daughter and wife, and getting to bed early. No surfing, no working on websites or other projects, just time spent with loved ones, and a good night's sleep. At least, that's the current plan. You never know how things will change.
Yesterday, I mowed both lawns, edged with the weed whacker, blew off the patio and sucked up the clippings with the leaf blower (which we refer to as the "Leaf-F&$^er 5000"), and was in the process of putting everything away, when I noticed a little more quiet from E than I am used to. In the case of a child of almost 4 years of age, it's the quiet that makes you nervous, not the noise.
"What are you up to, hon?"
"Oh, I'm just lying in the grass... watching the clouds go by. Want to lie with me?"
Putting aside for the moment how well spoken a three-year-old she is, I ask you, how could any sane person pass up such an opportunity? So, I spent a few minutes lying on my back, in the fresh cut grass, staring up at the clouds with my daugher, picking out shapes in the clouds (she saw lots of bunnies on motorcycles), and just generally relaxing in the early evening light. As the 'Old Milwaukee' commercial says...
It just doesn't get any better than this.
